The disease of alcoholism/addiction, which can grip anyone, can be arrested at some point through proven methods, and recovery is then possible. Although some people apparently manage to quit on their own, the majority is caught up in a never-ending cycle of using alcohol/drugs round the clock and finding the means to procure it. Since most of them are unable to earn, they resort to lying, cheating and stealing even from their most loved ones. They simply have to use alcohol/drugs at any cost. It has been proven that one of the most successful ways to break this cycle is to join Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) or Narcotics Anonymous (NA). These are worldwide non-profit fellowships of men and women for whom alcohol/drugs had become a major problem and who are learning to live without them. Please refer to enclosed literature for more about the fellowships. It is seen that most alcoholics/addicts, however, need help to be sober/clean to be able to take advantage of the fellowships which they might even be loathe to join in the drugged state they live in day after day. Ideally, they should simply quit alcohol/drugs at home with the help of family members. This is not practical, however, due to the withdrawal symptoms and mood swings following discontinuation of the substance they are used to. Family members simply cannot deal with the situation. Some people turn to hospitals and nursing homes for detoxification, which could take 7 to 10 days. This is usually an expensive proposition, costing up to Rs 5,000 a day in some facilities, and simply not a long lasting solution since an alcoholic/addict is likely to return to active addiction the moment he/she gets back home. What is needed is effective counseling by experienced counselors who are familiar with all the complicated aspects of alcoholism/addiction over a period of time. For this to be successful, alcoholics/addicts need to be free of intoxicants for at least 3 months and committed to the process of living a drug-free life. This is precisely what a specialised facility like Recovery Home offers. |
